Birkenhead Priory & St. Marys Tower
An excellent day out, the priory has something to offer everyone. Even though the priory is surrounded on all sides by industrial estates and shipyard inside you still get a fantastic sense of its original isolation. This place is well worth a visit for a number of reasons. Firstly because it a fantastic slices on Merseyside/UK history, it’s free; it has a good exhibition inside with 19th century artefacts found on the site. Its free which for me with five kids was a nice surprise, particularly when I had just come form the Birkenhead museum which as museums go was excellent and also free. The tower of the priory give amazing panoramic views of the Mersey cost and the ever growing Liverpool city centre. All in all a good, cheap, edifying day out
